Undergraduate Researcher: Jeffrey Russell
For his Undergraduate Research/Creative Activity Award, Jeffrey Russell identified weed species that harbor an overwintering virus that damages such vegetable crops as cucumbers, squash, and pumpkins. Growers could then target those weeds, lowering the chance of infection and improving their bottom line. His mentor on the project was Dr. Alan Walters, assistant professor of plant, soil, and general agriculture
Jeffrey's message: "Undergraduate research was a great thing to be a part of. I was able to learn more through research practices than if I had left my education merely to a textbook. The whole experience certainly will have an impact on the direction my career will take."
